Terrific Kids is a program promoted by Kiwanis International where students in Elementary Schools are honored monthly for good citizenship and contributions to the classroom and the school environment. Individual students are chosen by their teachers and supported by their classmates to receive recognition before the entire school and before parents and grandparents.
The Kiwanis Club of Tacoma sends teams of members to eight Tacoma Elementary Schools each month to present a Terrific Kids Certificate, a pencil and a bumper sticker for their parent’s car. Towards the end of the school year the Club hosts a special luncheon for two students from each of our schools where their teachers or Principals acknowledge their good work and their contribution to the school.
Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school and junior high students. Builders Club is a student-led community service organization that operates under school regulations and draws its members from the student body. Members learn to work together and develop servant-leaders skills as they serve their school and community. In partnership with UNICEF and March of Dimes, the clubs are able to expand their outreach to babies and children of the world. We have offered to sponsor a Builders Club with a local middle school.
Key Club is a Service Club at the High School level through which students promote, practice and contribute to their school and the surrounding community with a variety of service projects and activities. The Kiwanis Club of Tacoma sponsors Key Clubs at Lincoln, Stadium and Mt. Tahoma High Schools and provides monetary support to assist with their many projects. Members of the Key Clubs also attend an Annual Key Club District Convention where they meet with Key Clubbers from throughout Washington, Oregon and British Columbia to share service project ideas and learn of new ways they can improve their club’s contribution to the community.
